Koen de Puydt graduated in 1998 as a degree in Communication Sciences (VUB), while he worked for the independent music magazine RifRaf as a journalist. After his studies, he continued his career as a music journalist with De Standaard and Studio Brussel. At the same time he obtained his Licentiate Degree in Law, specializing in Public Law at the VUB (2002). In 2009 he obtained a Master of Business Law at the University of Antwerp.
In 2002, Koen joined a Brussels niche firm specializing in administrative law (urban planning and environmental law, expropriations, government contracts, and protection legislation). In the meantime he remained responsible at de Puydt-van Cauwelaert for the files relating to commercial and economic law and intellectual property law.
Two years later, Koen started working full-time at de Puydt-van Cauwelaert. He was responsible for matters relating to urban planning and environmental law, real estate law, government contracts, contracting law, commercial and economic law, corporate law and intellectual property law. He also publishes on these matters.
In 2010 de Puydt-van Cauwelaert and GD & A Advocaten merged. Koen de Puydt, as partner, headed the Real Estate / Construction Law and Corporate Law units.
Since 2002 he has been lecturer “Contracts, Assignments and Mandates” at Syntra Brussels in the vocational training for real estate agents. In the course for Real Estate Experts, Koen lesson on construction law. He is the initiator of the Property Codex, a collection of legal texts tailored to the real estate professional. The codex is used throughout Flanders in the vocational training of the real estate agents within Syntra.
In August 2012, Koen co-founded the law firm ORYS. In April 2019, Koen together with Leo Peeters of Peeters Law have decided to set up a new law firm under the name of “Seeds of Law”.
Koen de Puydt has many publications to his name and gives on a regular base formations to real estate professionals.

On 1 June 2024, a new Flemish decree dated 8 March 2024, came into effect that provides for how real estate assets are disposed of and rights in rem are established and disposed of. The purpose of this decree is to create a sustainable, consistent and effective legal framework within which entities of the Flemish government can dispose of real estate assets, as well as establish and dispose of rights in rem. The main consequence of this decree is that from now on all Flemish public authorities and entities must comply with well-defined publicity obligations in connection with their public real estate transactions, whereas previously this was only the case for a more limited circle of authorities.

From 18 September 2024, the property broker's duty of disclosure has been extended. The real estate agent must also inform buyers whether or not the property is located in a water-sensitive open space area. This is in addition to the real estate agent's duty to inform about the availability of the environmental permit, the most recent urban planning destination, any remedial measures, subdivision permit, etc. Not only when selling a property but also when renting out a property for more than nine years, the fact whether or not the property is located in water-sensitive open space area must be disclosed.

On 28 November 2024, the law transposing the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) was approved by the Chamber of Representatives. Although the transposition had been due for implementation since 6 July 2024, it marks an important step towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly economy. The directive came into force on 5 January 2023 and aims to modernise and strengthen the rules regarding the social and environmental (ESG) information that companies must report.
